How Did You Break The News?

by Christer

Well now that the cat is out of the bag from yesterdays post I’m curious about something.  For those of you that have little ones, how did you break the news?  I’d love to hear all the stories about creative or funny was you’ve told parents, spouses and friends.

Leave a comment and refer your friends to leave comments.  I’d love to collect a long list of funny stories.

  1. We told Alisha’s parents about Jenelle’s birth by having her brother bless Alisha’s baby in a family prayer. Everyone thought he was just being weird, so the effect was pretty much lost. We thought it was hilarious though.

We told my parents in a birthday card to my dad. We were married the day after my dad’s birthday in ’04, and Jenelle was born 2 days before his birthday in ’05. So in his card we apologized for having ruined his birthday, and apologized because we were going to ruin it that year too with a baby. My dad started crying and my mom and sister started jumping around the room. Good times.

  2. Burgess basically told me. I peed on the stick and couldn’t look – told him to and I knew by the look on his face. All color left his face and he looked sick. He was completely silent.

I text my mom at like 5 in the morning her time because I was so freaked out.

We also left “happy 4th of July” gifts for Burgess’ mom dad and sister up on their beds for them (the gifts were bibs that said “I love my Grandma” and a steeler binky and then little baby booties) We sent them upstairs to open them and heard his mom scream and she ran down the stairs crying and then Asher and Mark just walked slowly from their rooms and were in shock. It was pretty funny.

  3. Wow, I’m boring. I just picked up the phone and said “guess what”

  4. Nothing exciting with the first one – just told everyone. For the second one – we had a bday party for Tab and had her unwrap a shirt that had a word puzzle on it (pictures with + and – on certain letters/sounds) and it spelled out. I made it with iron on transfers using the computer.

(picture of an eye) + (pic of ham) – H + going + 2 + (pic of Bee)+ A + (pic of Pig) – P + B . . . (once everyone figured that out we showed them the back of the shirt which said) SISTER!

    “I am going to be a big . . . . sister!”

I think the puzzle kind of ruined the effect. People were confused . . . so for those who didn’t catch on, I really had to spell it out for them.

I don’t remember what we did for the third.
